Pix from "A.I. Artificial Intelligence"

This was probably the coolest thing I've ever built for a movie. I built this robot, known informally as "TV Face," at Stan Winston Studios for the movie "A.I. Artificial Intelligence." It was featured in the middle sequence, also know as the "Flesh Fair scene." Early on in the build phase I proposed that this character be actually built as a robot, instead of a puppet, like all the other "robot" characters in the scene. Amazingly, the folks who make the budget decisions went for it, and I went on to spend the next six months constructing this radio-controlled, battery-powered servo-hydraulic machine. As long as one subscribes to a reasonably loose definition of the word "robot," it can truly be said that TV Face was the only real robot in a movie all about robots.
